Guidelines for authors and speakers

Thank you for your support and contribution to the Unified International Technical Conference on Refractories (UNITECR) 2023.

Please find below information specifically for authors (of scientific papers, “Short Communications” or posters) and speakers at the UNITECR conference.

In the case that you are unable to attend the conference and need to cancel your participation, please inform Ms. Nina Stabe at unitecr@mcon-mannheim.de.

I WILL GIVE A LECTURE

  • Lectures are 15 minutes long, followed by a 5-minute window to discuss your lecture and answer questions from the audience. You will be gently stopped after 15 minutes of speaking.
  • During your lecture, you will most probably want to show slides (a presentation). You have the following options to submit your presentation:

Bring your presentation to the media desk at the UNITECR conference

  • On site, you can hand in your presentation at the media desk, if possible on the day before you hold it. Please hand in your presentation at least one hour before the start of the session at the latest (not before the start of the presentation), so that the presentation can be checked and converted if necessary.
  • The opening hours of the media desk are:
    27th September: 08.00 AM – 05.00 PM
    28th September: 08.00 AM – 05.00 PM
    29th September: 08.00 AM – 11.30 AM
  • Files can be imported from USB storage devices (USB sticks and hard drives) which are Windows 10 compatible (FAT / NTFS formatted, not Mac OS formatted).

The format of your presentation

Please note the following when creating your presentation:

  • You will find the speaker view of your PowerPoint presentation on the screen at the lectern. The monitor shows you the currently displayed slide, the following slide or the next animation or your notes in a small preview image. Please note that you have no direct influence on the font size of your notes at the lectern, so long texts might not be completely displayed. Please do not simply read your presentation from your notes.
  • The standard setup does not include a keyboard or mouse at the lectern. There is a hand-held presenter at the lectern for controlling your slides and starting videos.
  • You will have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the hand-held presenter at the media desk.
Exclusively permitted formatMicrosoft PowerPoint (not older than Office 2019)
Optimal aspect ratio:16:9
Permitted video formats:Format (e.g. *.mp4, *.avi, *.mov, *.wmv, *.mpg) that are playable with Windows Media Player in the default Windows 10 installation.
  • Each morning and after each lunch, there is a “Speakers Coffee” where you can meet the speakers in your session and your Chairpersons.
  • Chairpersons and speakers will have the opportunity to meet in their session room in the morning and after each lunch to discuss the sessions in the morning or afternoon.

Questions regarding the content of the presentations can be discussed and questions for the discussions after each presentation can then easily be arranged with a cup of coffee in hand.

  • There will be a “Poster Slam” on the first day of UNITECR where you will be able to present your work during a session of the conference in the form of a short lecture of 60 to 90 seconds, without slides or presentation. With this format you can address a large audience in a short time and attract them to your work and to your poster in the poster area. The three short lectures that attract the most attention will receive a “Poster Award”. The Poster Slam will take place on the 27th September 2023 at 4:40 – 06:00 p.m..
